It’s only in the past 30 years that women have become a growing presence in organizations, especially at leadership levels. Yet our models of leadership still emphasize men, and stereotypes linked to women most often do not depict their leadership strengths or abilities. This means many women find the situations they confront unsupportive of who they are or their aspirations. As we all know, “you can’t be what you can’t see.”
Building on my experience leading the National Council for Research on Women, I support women clients to develop a sense of the power within themselves to achieve their leadership goals and effect change. Here’s how:
We work together to:
- Build the allies, networks, mentors, and sponsors you’ll need to succeed
- Decide when to raise your hand for assignments and opportunities and take calculated risks
- Assess how to promote yourself and others
- Identify ways to upend the implicit biases that often hold women back and manage the tension of how much — and when — to fit in or stand out
I also work with women clients (and men as well!) on managing work/life integration.
