These are highlights of some of my coaching engagements:
Boosting Leadership Competence and Confidence
I helped create an individualized, strategic approach for a high-potential director in a large health care company, enabling her to transition successfully from an internal support role to a senior director client-facing position with P&L responsibilities. Drawing on 360 stakeholder feedback and personality assessments and through the coaching, my client was able to expand her self-awareness of her blind spots and triggers for undermining actions, and stretch herself to develop new behaviors. These included managing the complex demands of external and internal stakeholders, her bosses and her team.
Supporting a Young Executive’s Growth
Through coaching, I worked with a successful, young senior vice president of a major urban university to develop more nuanced political savvy and a strategic approach to managing. From our work together building his self-awareness and clarifying a vision for his department, he was able to create a more professional office culture and strengthen his management skills in dealing with the president, the university’s executive team, his own team and external stakeholders.
Grooming a Woman to be CEO
Coaching the Deputy Director of a successful health care nonprofit organization, I facilitated her self-reflection on behaviors that were getting in the way of her demonstrating strong leadership behavior and executive presence. Drawing on the findings of a 360 assessment, we addressed her self-defeating behaviors and ways she could use her strengths to refocus her external behavior, nurture her listening skills, and become more strategic in delegating to — and developing the skills of — her staff. Within two years, when the then-CEO retired, my client was appointed to the CEO position.
Laid Off and in Transition: Building a New Roadmap and Networks
Working with a senior level insurance executive who had retired following a company restructuring, I helped him reposition himself to become the east coast head of a growing search firm with national aspirations. Our coaching included developing a vision for his next role but also experimenting with different settings and possibilities, building his knowledge of the search field, growing his networks and taking calculated risks.
Emerging Leader: Facilitating Leadership Potential
I helped a high-potential millennial leader move into a management position in a Fortune 500 health and consumer goods company. Utilizing career and leadership assessment tools, we focused on building his self-awareness, strengthening his communication skills, and identifying strategies that enabled him to embrace change and manage complicated company rotations. After his last rotation, he was able to achieve the management position he wanted and to integrate himself into this longer-term position with peers, his team, and managers.
